Rakesh Kumar obtained his M.Sc. and M.Phil. degrees from University of Delhi with Outstanding grade. He is Associate of Insurance Institute of India (AIII), Mumbai securing All India 1st Position & Passed all papers together in 1st attempt. Awarded R.D. Aggarwal Memorial Medal by Delhi Insurance Institute. He is also Fellow of Insurance Institute of India (FIII), Mumbai and passed the examination in first attempt.

He joined Oriental Insurance Company Ltd. as class officer 1 in 1983 and retired in April 2017 on reaching the age of superannuation, after 34 years service. He is associated with Insurance teaching since 1994 and spent 11 years in Corporate Training Centre of Oriental for 11 years – 4 years as Insurance Faculty and 7 years as Principal and Faculty.

He has dealt with all technical departments in all tiers of offices (Branch, Divisional, Regional as well as Corporate office).He was on deputation to GIPSA for 3 years wherein he co-ordinated with Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Finance, Govt. of India on all technical matters.He also spent more than 2 years at Office of Insurance Ombudsman on deputation wherein he worked as Dy. Secretary (Advisor) to Insurance Ombudsman.

His area of specialization includes Marine Insurance, Health Insurance, Risk Analysis and Management, Liability Insurance, Legal aspects of Insurance and Laws related to Insurance.

Besides teaching Insurance subjects at Training Centres of Oriental Insurance Company Ltd., he is also a Guest Faculty in couple of the Management Institutes engaged in conducting MBA programmes in International Business, Insurance and Financial Management. He is also invited by some Central Govt. Academies for teaching Insurance Laws and Govt. Schemes.
